TAJ AIR HANGAR

Private Flight Character Service Hangar - Taj Air Limited

A space important largely for transit, this hangar for a corporate body at the Mumbai Domestic Airport, was a challenge to manage a balance within the internal space by integrating the quintessential utilitarian ‘hangar’ into a stylized corporate identity. A very relevant part of the brief was the need to meet Wyvern standards.

Although the design involvement required within the hangar was minimal; the challenge came while integrating and coordinating the engineering with the aesthetics. On the other hand, the potential of the façade design and the back office interiors was taken as a chance to introduce linear spatial design forms into the parameters of conventional spaces and create a work environment for them that’s functional, contemporary and yet cost effective.

The main hangar space allows for 3 Falcons to be parked and serviced. The annexe block houses the Administration and the Maintenance facilities with a staff entry from the rear. A passenger lounge is housed on one side from where passenger can board the aircraft. All services have been separated from the main structure, though housed at the rear end of the plot with a landscaped court in their midst to do away with the repulsive nature of a regular service block.
