Designed for a dynamic couple—a serial entrepreneur and his artist wife—this residence occupies a narrow linear plot in a gated community along the East Coast Road, nestled between Chennai and Mahabalipuram. With the shorter edge of the site facing east toward the sea, the design leverages the natural orientation to frame ocean views and enhance ventilation.

Organized across two levels, the ground floor houses the father’s suite and shared family spaces, while the upper floor is reserved for the master bedrooms, offering privacy and elevated views of the coastline. A single, soaring pitched roof runs the full length of the home, with its ridge aligned along a central corridor, creating a unifying architectural spine.

The spatial strategy blends solid and void, indoor and outdoor. While the living and bedroom areas are enclosed, the remainder of the house embraces openness, using internal courtyards, water bodies near the sea-facing edge, and cascading green walls along corridors to cool incoming air. These passive strategies create a comfortable microclimate, filtering light and breeze while echoing the natural beauty of the coastal setting.

Marrying pragmatic living with poetic moments of pause, this house is both a sanctuary and a canvas—reflecting the entrepreneurial spirit and creative soul of its inhabitants.
