Located within the high-security precincts of Mumbai Domestic Airport, the Private Flight Charter Service Hangar for Taj Air Limited was envisioned as more than a utilitarian aircraft shelter. The challenge was to reconcile the strict technical demands of a hangar with the aesthetic and experiential expectations of a premium corporate entity, all while complying with Wyvern safety and operational standards—a global benchmark for aviation safety.

While the functional demands of the main hangar space were non-negotiable—capable of accommodating and servicing up to three Dassault Falcons simultaneously—the architectural ambition lay in subtly elevating the identity of the structure through thoughtful design integration. The emphasis was on engineering coordination, maintaining precision without compromising the sleek, refined language of a corporate setting.

The annex block, designed to house administration and maintenance operations, was treated as an opportunity to break away from conventional back-end architecture. With a staff entry positioned at the rear, circulation was optimized to keep service personnel and passengers on separate, non-conflicting paths.

A dedicated passenger lounge—positioned discreetly to one side of the hangar—provides a seamless interface between airside and landside experiences. This exclusive, controlled space enables VIP passengers to board directly from the lounge, enhancing privacy and comfort.

The services and utilities block, typically relegated as an afterthought, was instead landscaped and spatially refined. Housed at the rear of the site, it is punctuated by a green court, transforming what would otherwise be a purely functional zone into a visually and environmentally pleasant segment of the site.

The project’s design language is rooted in linear spatial organization, offering both clarity and elegance in navigation. Whether through the hangar’s clean lines or the annex’s modular rhythm, the overall composition speaks to a contemporary corporate sensibility that is both cost-effective and operationally sound.

This project redefines the typology of aviation hangars by blending precision engineering with spatial sophistication—delivering a facility that is both technically robust and corporately refined.
